CULTURE: Veraguas ORIGIN: Panama AGE: Ca. 300 B. C. -300 A. D. SIZE: 15" in height by 12" at the widest diameter DESCRIPTION: A superb intact bisqueware water vessel from Panama. This understated jar is graceful and splendid in its size and simplicity. It is truly immense and the pottery is thin walled and highly fired. The handles are delicately applied human female figures. It is rare for a vessel to be this immense and remain totally intact! There are several smoke clouds visible from the time of firing. The balance and shape combine to give it a similar appearance to a Roman amphora. A great display piece for a large area. PROVENANCE: The unsurpassed private collection of Dr. Glen Murphy via inheritance.
