Giant Japanese Mingei Frog Carving
These guys have attitude! A massive wooden carving of two frogs taken from a dark burl of hardwood, likely chestnut, showing beautiful grain in the smooth sections, almost appearing wet, with the rough natural texture of the wood elsewhere giving a true sense of the Ibo-gaeru toad. They are expertly rendered with stoic expressions. Both are quite muscular, the top character poised as if he is about to leap. The carving is 40 x 63 x 47 cm (16 x 24 x 19-1/2 inches) and weighs 22 kg (48 pounds). There are cracks from age in several places, and, like anything from Japan, I would recommend humidifying if placing in a very dry environment. Due to size the cost of shipping will be accrued separately on this piece.
