Unusual Taisho p. Japanese Lacquer Sake Pot
A black lacquered pot in the shape of a sake taru (cask) decorated with maki-e of a sake cup and leaves. This is not a decorative item but actually functions, the sake able to pour from the spout on the left side of the handle. How it is able to pour through such a narrow piece of wood is an amazing piece of construction. Very unusual. It measures 22.5 x 16 x 34 cm (9 x 6-1/2 x 13-1/2 inches) and is in fine condition. Playfulness of the Taisho period I would think, from the same collection as the Jubako recently uploaded.
