A crane stands mejestically crying to the wind on married rocks rising from crashing waves on the side of this white porcelain vase decorated by early 20th century literati painter Ikeda Keisen signed on the base Heian Hakuun. It is more than 12 inches (31 cm) tall and in fine condition.
Ikeda Keisen (1863-1931) worked initially under his father Ikeda Unsho. He graduated the Kyoto Prefectural School of painting and was an important artist in the initial stages of the Bunten National Exhibition.
