A fierce image of a Shishi lion made as a Koro incense burner, his head turned in an unusual jaunt as he roars defiance to the evils of the world. This piece, judging by the large-body to head ratio, likely dates from the late 20s or 30s, when powerful, muscular images were popular. The head is removable to reveal the ash chamber, and when incense is burning, the smoke would escape through his mouth. It is 8 x 5 x 8 inches (20 x 12.5 x 20 cm) and in overall fine condition, the body stained slightly with years of smoke. It comes in an old wooden box.
