A trumpeting form engraved with a carp ascending a waterfall in sky-blue glaze by Seifu Yohei enclosed in the original signed double wood box. It is 12 inches (30 cm) tall plus the rosewood stand. This piece dates from early in his career.
Seifu Yohei V (1921-1992) was the son of the fourth Seifu, and took the reigns of the kiln in 1946. Trained in the traditional Seifu style of the Meiji to Early Show period by his father, he took that and added an element of design, producing much decorated and colored porcelains with often complex and dramatic imagery.
