An 18th or early 19th century Shonzui-yaki Imari Incense Burner enclosed in an age darkened period wood box. It is signed Gorotaiho Goshonzui Zo in a cartouche on the side. This is an attribution to the artist Ito Goro Taiho who is said to have crossed to China to learn the basics of firing sometsuke, and spent ten years there before returning to Japan to set up a kiln in the Imari region. The piece is 5.5 x 9 x 7.5 cm (2-1/4 x 3-1/2 x 3 inches).
