A beautifully rendered image of the three friends of winter, Plum, Pine and Bamboo rising up majestically from the forest floor along a stream of swirling eddies, the delicate white blossoms bursting forth like the charge of spring. The painting dates from the 19th century, and has been completely remounted without over-painting. The screen is mounted in patterned blue brocade with a black lacquered wooden frame. It is 382 x 180.5 cm (150 x 71 inches) and is in overall fine original condition with many old repairs attesting to age. One tear visible in the last photograph is currently being repaired.
