Old Japanese Buddhist Mask, Kagura

A fine old Buddhist mask used for Kagura shrine dancing depicting one of the holy figures known as Bosatsu, the mask in the style called Mokuzo Bosatsu. The rank of Bosatsu is the last before attaining full Buddha hood. The paper on back is not legible to us, though appears to read Mo (?) Ho Bosatsu. The mask is made of cloth covered with a paper machete like substance, lacquered and gilded and again lacquered in Byakudan Nuri style. It is roughly 8 inches (20 cm) tall, the same width and in excellent condition.
