Antique Japanese Bronze Figure of Shoki, by Tansai
Reluctance to draw his sword is won over by a firm sense of resolve evident in the conflicted expression; he strokes his beard with one hand, the sword of righteousness raised firmly in the other. A fine Takao image of Shoki the demon queller in dark bronze enclosed in a fine cedar wood box with fan shaped handle bearing the Takao family label within. The figure is signed Tansai saku on the back of his robes and dates from the Meiji/Taisho era. It stands 11 inches (28 cm) tall and comes with the Rosewood stand pictured. There are stress marks on one of the “ears” on his headdress, otherwise is in fine original condition.
