Antique Japanese Edo p. Gold Screen, Samurai and Demon
The famous Samurai Yorimasa sends his arrow through the heart of a demon with a monkeys head, dragons body and snake for a tail which had been haunting the house daily. The story is called the Nue Taijin from the Heike Monogatari. The scene is performed with pigment on applied gold and features a fantastic border of orange brocade. It measures 4 x 8 feet (244 x 122 cm) and is in fine condition.
