Edo p. Japanese Samurai Armor, Yoroi
A beautifully restored Edo period suit of black lacquered Nerikawa armor featuring a spectacular iron mask. THe black lacquered helmet bowl is supplanted with a leather wrapped mabizashi and five lame Hineno-Shikoro curving to fit the shoulders. Astride the helmet is a gilded dragon with glass eyes. The mask is a Reisei-Ho in raw iron with long drooping moustache and black scaled nodokake throat guard. THe Do is of the Go-mai design with five hinged sections, all of Kiritsuke Kozane scales with Kusazuri matching the sode nodokake and shikoro. The Sangu have been re-covered with fine silk at some time in the past and the scales repaired. It comes in the pictured wooden hitsu box. The dragon maedate has been broken, and came to us poorly glued together. Otherwise all is in fine condition. Included with the sale is a Saihai signal baton and the flag holder (ukezutsu) for the back of the armor.
