MARIO MICOSSI Original Signed Etching "Roma" 1964
This is a fantastic original signed color etching by internationally acclaimed Italian artist Mario Micossi (b. 1922), recently recovered from an Encino, CA estate. Mario Micossi attended the Udine Lyceum before completing his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in 1946. Soon afterwards he moved to New York City where he worked until 1955. Micossi first came to the attention of the art world as an illustrator for such leading periodicals as The New Yorker and Saturday Review. From 1960 on, however, he devoted himself almost exclusively to etching and it is in this field of art that his reputation has been established. Major galleries such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Fogg Museum, Harvard University, the Albertina, Venice, the Stockholm National Museum, the Stuttgart Staatsgalerie, the Library of Congress and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, own examples of Micossi's original etchings. Work measures approximately 6 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches (image size). Professionally framed and matted, with glass, measures: 14 3/4 x 17 1/4 inches. Signed in pencil lower right. Numbered, titled and dated in pencil lower left: "42/65, Piazza Navona in Roma, 1964." Medium: etching with color. Condition: some mild even toning but overall in very good condition. Authenticity is guaranteed. Domestic shipping is $18. Shipping to Western Europe is $48.
