| Here we have a superb Islamic manuscript painting recently recovered from the estate of an Islamic and Asian art collector from Pasadena, California who began collecting in the 1940s and 1950s. We are not experts in the field but we believe the work to be Persian or perhaps Indo-Persian or Mughal. We are also not certain as to the age but the work appears to be quite old and we would estimate the work to date to the early-mid 19th century, if not earlier. Work measures 8 1/4 x 12 3/4 inches. Framed, work measures: 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches (image size). Framed under glass, work measures: 13 1/2 x 18 inches. Medium: gouache, ink, and gold leaf on paper. Subject: an Islamic story or fable perhaps, depicting armed warriors with swords. A very animated scene. This work is highly detailed with even the individual strands of hair in the subject's hair apparent. A gorgeous, gorgeous work. Framed under glass as shown. Please disregard any glare/reflection in glass. Condition: Has not been examined outside of frame but appears to be in very good condition, some mild wear apparent. Please see photos.
