| This is a superb, large oil on canvas painting by noted California artist William Arthur Paxton (1873-1965). Born in Canada, Paxton moved to Southern California in 1890 but soon took up residence first in Colorado and then Alaska, seeking success in mining. After finally settling down in Los Angeles, Paxton became a well-respected art teacher and was active in numerous art organizations including, the California Art Club, Friday Morning Club, and Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles. Source: Edan Hughes, Artists in California, 1786-1940. Work measures 25 x 30 inches. Framed as shown, work measures: 30 x 35 inches. Subject: a blooming spring desert landscape. Signed lower left quadrant "W A Paxton." Medium: oil on canvas. Condition: very good condition, some mild paint loss where frame borders canvas (see photos) but otherwise in very good condition.
