| Curved cloud spandrels on either side of the recessed legs give this 18th century Chinese northern elm altar table a light and graceful look. Everted flanges sweep upward at each end of the top. It is supported on trestles that frame large open panels carved with chilin, mythical lion-like beasts that symbolized high rank in old China. Judging by its size--eight feet in length--the table most likely saw use in a Oing Dynasty temple. It is in excellent condition. Dimensions: height 32" (81 cm), length 97" (247 cm), depth 16" (41 cm). | ||
