|A Khmer face with full lips, broad nose and eyes that tilt upward at the outer corners identifies the Cambodian origin of this early 20th century bronze Buddha. Tight curls on the head are topped with a high lotus finial. The right hand is raised in abhaya mudra, gesture of blessing and protection. Both palms are incised with the Buddhist wheel of law. The torso is bare to the waist where a body-hugging robe is defined with deep incising around the hips and on a panel down the front. A cape hangs from a band around the neck, covers the right shoulder and flares out on both sides at the bottom. There is some damage to the heel of the left foot; otherwise the piece is in very good condition. Dimensions: height 11 1/2" (29 cm), width 4 1/2" (12 cm), depth 2" (5 cm).
