A finely detailed miniature from Kishangarh, this painting has the lyrical quality that characterizes much of the work from this area in the state of Rajasthan in India. Two delicate figures sit in the foreground within an elaborate setting of cushions, flowers, arches and windows, all rendered in tiny intricate designs. Both are richly dressed and heavily jeweled. They gaze into each others eyes before drinking a toast, he from a bowl, she from a tiny cup. This idealized scene, influenced by Mughal miniatures, became a popular theme for Rajasthani painters more than a century ago and remains so today. The scene recalls the spirit of Rajasthan and its over-the-top style that still can be seen there today. This 30-year-old vintage painting is on thin paper that is discolored and torn along two outside edges. The painted area itself is in excellent condition. Dimensions of the painted area: height 4-3/4" (12 cm), width 3-1/2" (9 cm). Dimensions including border: height 7" (18 cm), width 6" (15 cm). SEE MORE ITEMS IN OUR COLLECTION AT WWW.SILKROAD1.COM
