| A still life by Vietnamese artist Pham Luc, this watercolor shows the exuberant style and warm colors that have characterized his paintings for many decades. Now in his 60s, Pham Luc is among the Hanoi painters who attracted the attention of collectors and galleries in Hong Kong and Singapore when foreigners began going back into Vietnam after the war. Pham Luc was known first in Vietnam as the "soldier painter" for work he produced while he was in the army. After graduating from the Hanoi College of Fine Arts in 1977 he joined the growing number of artists who had gathered in Hanoi. The international community became aware of the art talent concentrated in Hanoi in 1990s. By that time, Pham Luc and his fellow painters had stockpiled a lot of work. We visited Pham Luc at this home and studio several times during that period and he had every nook and corner stacked to the ceiling with paintings he had done over previous decades. This little painting is one that emerged from that stockpile. Since then, he has had numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. This work, on paper, is in excellent condition. Dimensions: height 10" (26 cm), width 7" (18 cm). | ||||||
