This early 19th century Chinese makeup box with huanghauli top and original mirror is in excellent condition. A key design finely carved along the front apron is the only decorative element added to the functional form of the piece. The spare design and use of fine hardwood make this vanity more typical of the earlier Ming period than Qing, when folding vanity boxes became more flamboyant with lots of carving, often incorporating painted flowers and dragons. Hinges, hasp, handles and drawer pulls are brass. The side handles and hasp, which secures the folded mirror, make the vanity portable. The original mirror is clouded, of course, and not usable but could be replaced easily if retaining the item's full authenticity is not a concern. (For photography purposes, it was sprayed with removable dulling liquid.) This excellent 200-year-old piece in very good condition. Dimensions: height 7" (18 cm), width 10" (26 cm), depth 12-1/2" (32 cm). SEE MORE ITEMS IN OUR COLLECTION AT WWW.SILKROAD1.COM
