| A slender, graceful Mandalay Buddha stands on a double lotus throne with right hand in varada mudra, gesture of charity and fulfillment of wishes. This early 20th century figure is carved of teak wood and covered with lacquer. Thayo (thickened lacquer) forms decorative edging on the robe and lotus petals on the throne, and is embedded with bits of red mica, much of it covered with a gold-colored wash. The face is serene, with downcast eyes and a slightly upturned mouth. This is a classic and beautiful Mandalay Buddha. Its depth of just thee and one-half inches will allow display in a shallow niche or shelf. The figure is in good condition. Dimensions: height 24" (61 cm), width 8" (20 cm), depth 3-1/2" (9 cm). | |||||||||||||||
