Hand carved of teak wood in Laos, this hanger provides an elegant way to display large collectible textiles. The end pieces are fully carved front and back with lotus flowers, Buddhist emblem of purity and perfection. (The symbolism is based on the fact that lotus flowers emerge from the mud beautiful and undefiled.) The center rod measures 31 ½ inches (80 cm) across to hold over-sized textiles such as ikat blankets, silk shawls, sarongs, and tribal and folk weavings. End carvings are shown in our photos suspended from above on transparent lines; the hanger also can be easily affixed directly to a wall by suspending open areas in the carvings over small L-shaped hangers. The end carvings are attached to the rod with screws so they can be removed to allow fabrics with pockets or tubes to be slipped over the rod. Carved about 15 years ago, this piece is in excellent condition. Dimensions: overall length 44” (112 cm), length of rod only 31 ½” (80 cm), height of end carvings 5 ½” (14 cm).
