Perhaps my favorite item purchased on my last buying trip to Paris are these earrings. They are designed with cut steel made of tiny pieces of polished, faceted steel that was riveted on to a brass back plate. This time consuming laborious process became popular during the early part of the 19th century and continued into the early 20th.

This example is most unusual as they are a pansy motif. Curved like the delicate ...click for details

This long, dramatic beaded necklace is French jet, circa 1890. Queen Victoria's mourning of her beloved Albert was joined by the populace. The country literally went black, and the clothes and jewelry followed. Whitby jet, a fossilized driftwood, was utilized to create acceptable jewelry for this period. Another alternative, French jet was also used. French jet, is neither French, not jet. Rather it is molded glass that became quite popular as a less expensive alternative to jet. The appeal ...click for details

I saved this Scottish brooch for a holiday listing. It is extraordinary in its artistry and in its execution. It is one of the earliest I have owned, circa 1830. The central crystal is set foil back in a repousse bezel. The use of foil beneath the stone was used to bring light and color, as it was closed in the back. This technique attributes a mellow hue of pale yellow with hints of pink. The agates are all inlaid in a curved swirling pattern set within silver strips almost invisible to the eye. ...click for details
