This superb example of a Georgian ring is circa 1790. It has a central almandine garnet, flat cut, faceted and foil back. The use of foil beneath the stone was to reflect light and add vibrancy as the stones were set closed back during this period. The garnet is a good size, measuring 3/8 inches across x 2/8ths down. The garnet has a crimped, rub over setting, and is accented on either side by two white rose diamonds set in silver. The shank is well stylized and the underside of the garnet has the characteristic radiating pattern found on Georgian rings. The ring is in excellent condition with all stones bright and beautiful. The underside of the garnet has a slight indentation on the radiating pattern. It is rendered in high carat and is completely original. It is currently a size 7 1/2 US. These early Georgian rings are increasingly scarce to find, and this is a fine example. English, circa 1790
