This Flemish heart pendant is like finely spun gold. Typically, this type of regional jewelry is found in Belgium and in the Northern regions of France such as Normandy. It is 18k and silver, and entirely created by hand. The design is of a heart surmounted with crown. It is also, a heart within a heart. The central heart has repousse work and is set with a small rose cut diamond. The use of silver accents on the gold is quite subtle. It looks lovely worn against the skin as the beautiful, gold, lace-like work then becomes distinctive. This type of regional jEewelry is difficult to find in good condition. This heart has a rich, original patina and would be beautiful worn on either the front or the back. I actually prefer the back as the central heart is so perfectly and gently domb- shaped.
It measures 2 1/2 inches down including the bale and 1 1/2 inches across. It would join well with a cord, ribbon or chain. Circa 1800
