This French trio of guilloche enamel and rose diamond lockets are wonderful. Each egg shaped locket is finely rendered in 18k gold, bearing the French touch marks on the top loop. The enamel is red, blue and green. Inset within the geometric criss-cross pattern, are well cut rose diamonds each set within a bezel. The enamel work is known as quilloche, or a pattern etched or engine-turned in the gold, as the base of the translucent enamel. The effect is subtle and distinctive, as the closer you look, the more beautiful it becomes.
The lockets each open to reveal a compartment. The blue retains the original glass which protects a lock of hair. The other two lockets are missing the glass. The lockets open and close securely and are in superb condition. They are decorated identically, front and back.
I purchased them in a small shop in Paris and I was so amazed to see how well they had been protected. They measure 1 inch long with the bale X 5/8 inches across. Worn together as charms on a bracelet, or individually on a chain or cord, they make a singular statement. If desired, the lockets could easily be set on a chain by your jeweler with the addition of a split ring. I will provide a single cord with a gold clasp that could be used for all three lockets.
They are elegant, fine, and so very French. Circa 1890
