This dramatic and beautiful Scottish agate and citrine brooch is circa 1880. The form of the brooch, is traditional and was worn to ornament and secure the top sash of the tartans. It is called a Tara brooch and now is enjoyed by women who wear this on scarves, coats, and sweaters..
This particular Tara is designed with a mellow choice of agates that blend harmoniously. It is accented by four faceted citrines and has fine hand engraving. It is a bold size, emoting 2 1/2 inches long X 1 7/8 inches across. The reverse has all the original mounts and an "O" ring that can attach to a safety chain if desired. It comes with the brooch and can easily be connected. The condition is excellent. The reverse has tiny dings, otherwise perfect.
I have always loved Scottish jewelry as it is truly a reflection of the landscape and the people. It's warmth and beauty are distinctive.
