How is it that every Scottish piece of jewelry is different. Certainly the forms are similar, but the beauty is in the individual choice of colored stones. This kilt pin, a dirk, is an example of the artistry of the lapidary. The colors of the agates are extraordinarily lovely. Each agate was cosen for color, cut, polished and accented by hand engraved silver . The bezel set, faceted stones are rock crystals that were foil backed. This very pale hue works magically with the colored agates. The entire composition is beautiful. The reverse has all original mounts and is in excellent condition . There is a wonderful safety mechanism that I have never seen before, and it has Brahma's patent engraved on it. The dirk measures a bold 4 inches long X 1/2 inches across the widest span. It is a beautiful example and can be worn on coats, scarves, blazers and shawls. Scotland, circa 1860. |
