This wonderful example of Scottish agate jewelry is a rare form. The symbolism of a love-knot was commonly used in Scottish as well as English jewelry. This particular form of unbroken rings is perhaps one of the most beautiful. The rings form a circle of love where there is no beginning or end. Scottish jewelry was my first "love" and I have sold many periods and designs. Perhaps it is the artistry and unique handwork. Like a first love, it will always have a special place in my heart. The value is not judged by the weight of gold or silver, but just for intrinsic beauty. I have collected and sold Scottish jewelry for over 25 years and have only had this form twice before. The colors and craftsmanship are superb. The condition is excellent. The reverse has some slight creasing and a replaced T-bar mount . It measures 2 1/4 inches across X 2 inches down. Simply beautiful! Scotland, circa 1850 |
