This lovely French pair of diamond earrings are circa 1900. They are called dormeuse earrings in France, for dormer, or sleep. They are petit and comfortable enough to wear to sleep or for daily wear. In Paris, even today, you will see the woman wearing similar earrings with just a touch of sparkle as this pair imparts.
They are designed as a double diamond set in 18k white and pale rose gold. The white gold setting the diamond, has the classical fleur de lis motif, feminine and lovely. The pale rose gold lever back wires have the French guarantee mark for 18k gold (an eagle's head) on the wire, as well as a maker's mark. There are also matching model numbers 436 engraved on each of the wires. The diamonds are K-L SI2 and sparkle with every turn. They two bottom stones are approximately 33 pts each of an old European cut. Two small rose cut diamonds approximately 10pt. each accent the tops. They have secure lever backs. Please note these are small earrings measuring 1/2 inch long from the top of the wire X 1/4 inches across. Perfect for a young woman or an adult who wants a touch of elegance.
