Extraordinary Antique Diamond Ring 18th Century
This 18th century, diamond ring is a treasure. When it is put in place and time, we can visualize class differences, the richness of the aristocracy and the desperation of the poor. The aristocracy were bathed in clothes, jewels and all types of refinements. Marie Antoinette was Queen of France, and opulence was the catch word. Jewelers created magnificent pieces, some of which survived and can be appreciated today.

This ring has been lovingly passed from one generation to the next, its beauty, cherished through the centuries. It has radiant, rose cut diamonds mixed with several table cuts. This design of the ring was popular in the 18th century. It had diamonds, closed back, and set in silver cut down collets. The center of this elegant elongated oval is a vitreous forest green set with diamonds. The perimeter has finely set diamonds framing the central element. The back and shank are completely original and set in a pale 18k rose gold. There are tiny European marks, possibly early French marks on the shank. The condition is remarkable consideration the age. There are tiny, tiny visible imperfections to the glass. The diamonds have their characteristic imperfections typical of the period, as they were all painstakingly hand cut. This is considered part of its beauty, not a defect.

The color green makes this unusual as a blue ground was most common. The ring measures 8 3/4 US and can be sized by a competent jeweler. The center of the ring measures a dramatic 1 3/8ths long x 3/4 inches across.

Striking,unique and rare, circa 1780.
