Axel Russmeyer is a German world renowned bead artist. His works have been exhibited in galleries and museums in the US and in Europe. They include MOMA,Victoria and Albert, Barneys, Kentshire, and Takishimaya.
He work is easily recognizable, as he utilizes antique beads of glass, crystal and resins stringing them each with precision and brilliance. Each bead has a subtle play of color and texture and they are strung together like tiny sculptures. I was first attracted to his work as it was reminiscent of the Wiener Werkstatte at the turn of the 20th century, but it was his unique, harmonious creation of dissimilar beads that captured my heart.
This example has twenty individually created beads joined by braided leather cord terminating with a gold, hand made clasp. The colors are plum, brown, rose with flashes of gold and iridescence, It is simply magical.
The necklace measures 16 inches with beads ranging from 14.5 mm to 19mm. The condition is excellent.
Axel Russmeyer's jewelry has soared in price within the last few years, with necklaces selling for over $10,000. His work is inventive and continually evolving. This is wearable art by a famed contemporary artisan.
