What a lovely pair of Georgian amethyst gold earrings, circa 1830! They are rendered in 15k gold with cannetille work. Cannetille is the process of using finely tested gold wires to create a type of gold embroidery. The filigree created was labor intensive and could only be reproduced today by a highly skilled artisan at an exorbitant cost.
The amethysts are faceted and foil back, giving them a marvelous hue. They are in excellent condition with the gold retaining the rich, original patina. They measure 2 inches long from the top of the wire X 3/4 inches across the bottom. The original wires have been replaced with gold shepherd's hooks.
Easily worn with casual or dress attire. England , circa 1830
