This antique gold necklace, referred to as a reviere, is English, circa 1800. Radiant, faceted ,foil back pastes create this very special necklace.
The cushion shaped pastes are foiled with a rich pink color, perfectly simulating pink topaz. The use of foil enhanced the reflection of light, as stones were characteristically set closed back. The use of foil not only contributed to the vibrancy, but to the distinctive hue. This necklace is 9 karat gold, and each stone is set in rub over hand, crimped collets. The entire necklace is beautifully designed and gracefully tapers terminating with an original push clasp.
The color pink is highly collectible in revieres, and this is a fine example. The condition is excellent, and it is completely original. The gold retains a rich, original patina with only a few minor dings on the reverse. The necklace would grace a slender neck as it measures 14 3/4 inches in length. The center stone is 1/2 across X 3/8 down.
