These earrings are Portuguese chrysoberyl, circa 1750. Chrysoberyl stone that was prized by the aristocracy in Portugal in the 18th century and imported from Brazil. The stones were hand cut and used in various forms of jewelry that was quite opulent in design. Earrings, large brooches aigrettes, stomachers graced the bodies of the women. Through the centuries these pieces changed with the demands of fashion and were taken apart and redesigned . This pair of beautifully detailed earrings were most likely were part of a large necklace or earrings, and now with the addition of gold ear wires they complement today's clothing. The chryosberyls are vibrant, hand cut and set in silver. Low carat rose gold beaded accents on the bow form are typical of this period of design. One tiny end bead is deficient upon magnification.

The earrings measure 1 1 /4 inches from the top of the wire X 3/4 inches across the bottom of the bow. Condition is excellent.
