This rare undulating almandine garnet bow is 18th Century. Each garnet is faceted on the perimeter, flat cut, foiled and set closed back. The design is extraordinary, realistically modeling a tied ribbon.
The garnets are various hues ,pale to deeper color depending on the choice of stone and the foiling. The center , bottom, has an articulating piece, garnet set, to replicate the end of the ribbon, but also has a hook in the back that could suspend a pendant if desired.
On the reverse, the pin mounts are original as are the ribbon attachments.
The bow is sterling silver with a gold wash to the reverse. There is a corner chip in the garnet seen in the 3:00 position and some surface scratches when seen with a loop. Overall condition is fine considering this is well over 200 years old.
I have never seen another with this fine design and execution in an early piece. It weighs a substantial 24.2 grams.
