This lovely diamond, Victorian pin is circa 1880. Designed as a swallow in flight, it has beautifully cut rose diamonds fully covering the head and body giving a bright spray of light. The head has a 16 pt diamond and the body various sizes of rose cuts which are difficult to accurately measure. The eyes are cabachon rubies. The metal is both gold and silver and the diamonds are open back, all typical design elements of the period. The condition is excellent and all original. There is a loop on the reverse which had been added for a detachable safety chain which accompanies the brooch. The bird measures 1 1/2 inches long x 1 1/4 inches wide.
