This 18k brooch is English circa 1780. Designed as a coiled snake surrounding an amethyst, representing eternity. The amethyst has a crimped gold setting and is foiled back. The eye of the snake is a tiny mine cut diamond and the body is finely detailed. The brooch is small and very elegant, measuring 3/4 inches long x 5/8 inches wide. The mounts are all original and a safety chain and loop has been added. It can be used, or detached easily. The condition is excellent, actually remarkable considering it is over 200 years old.
