This is a rare and wonderful painted ivory miniature ring. The art work and details are a testament to the artists superior talent. The proportions, the eyes, and details of the hair are remarkable. The blue velvet jacket, the white ascot, and mauve vest are as elegant and refined as the gentleman's face. Rings such as these, were commissioned for, and worn by the aristocracy. Considering the period of time, only a noble, wealthy family could afford such a grand luxury. The ring is bold in size and would have been worn on top of gloves. It measures 1 1/4 inches long x 6/8 across. It is a US size 6 3/4. It is in original condition, void of any restoration. The original beveled glass has minor scratches. You can see in the photos near the eye, some lines which is from the surface of the glass, not from the ivory . This is under great magnification and not evident when worn. The left edge of the velvet jacket has slight paint loss as well. Considering the age, it is in remarkable condition. It is an important and elegant 18th century ring. |
