18th Century Jeweled Flower Basket Pin

This brooch is circa 1790, and is rare in both beauty and design. It has a top plaque of purple enamel depicting a winged cupid floating in the clouds capturing a wreath of flowers. The entire creation is a flower basket set with a central emerald and surrounded with white sapphires, blue sapphires and rubies. The stones are flat cut with facets on the sides, typical of the time period. All stones are closed and foil back. The color combination is extraordinarily beautiful. I believe it may be French by the motif and color combinations. It most likely originated as a pendant as it had later brooch fittings applied. There is a tiny fleck of enamel above the cupids head and at the edge near the bezel below the wreath. There are some surface scratches evident with a 10x loop as would be expected with an item from this time period. It measures 1 3/4 inches across x 1 1/2 inches down. it would also look wonderful pinned to a wide velvet ribbon and worn as a choker. How lovely to have an eternal gift of flowers...
