| These gold amethyst and natural pearl earrings are circa 1830. Formally, stud buttons, they were beautifully converted to earrings. The amethyst are a deep violet color and have a rich hue created by the foil placed below the stone. This process was done in jewelry that had stones closed in the back to the light. The foil created a distinctive glow, enhancing the color of the stones. The amethysts are 7mm and are surrounded by a row of creamy natural pearls set in crimped rub over settings. The earrings are light on the ear, and would be a perfect complement to early Georgian or Victorian jewelry. They measure 5/8 across and 3/4 inches long with the ear wires. These are easy to wear, day or evening and in excellent condition. They are a perfect match the the seed pearl/amethyst necklace just listed. | ||||||||
