These gold paste earrings are French, circa 1820. They are finely set in silver hand crimped collets and backed in gold. The 18k ear wires are back to front and have French touchmarks. The pastes are closed back and foiled. This laborious process was done to intensify the reflection of light into the stone. The result is a brilliance unique to foiled period jewelry with a distinctive beauty unto itself. For a collector of early jewelry, this would be a fine addition in excellent, original condition. It measures 1/2 inches round and 3/4 inches long from the top of the gold wire. Beautiful and timeless in design and use.
