This beautiful moonstone ring is part of the
Arts and Crafts Movement, circa 1910. It is designed with a clear blue cabachon moonstone that is surrounded by faceted Bohemian garnets. The sheen seen on the moonstone is called adularescence and is found in quality stones.
The use of semi-precious stones was commonly used during this period, as importance was given to craftsmanship and design. Moonstones of this quality were rather plentiful and inexpensive, but now are considered quality gemstones difficult to find as the mines have have been virtually depleted. The moonstones found today are called "rainbow" and are included and murky in color. When a stone is found that is clear and blue, it commands a high price in today's marketplace.
The ring is completely hand made, the stones are all bezel set, and a twisted silver wire is used for accenting the setting. All these elements are typical of the period. There is a sterling mark on the inside of the shank. It measures a size 6 US and measures a bold 1 inch long x 7/8 wide. It is in excellent, original condition.
