This Arts and Crafts pin and earring set is circa,1940. it is attributed to the artisan Mary Gage, who had a shop in Greenwich Village NY in the 40's and later in Portland Maine. She traveled to the Orient and it is reflected in her jewelry. Her work is distinctive, and lily pads are one of her recurrent designs. The twisted wire work, accented by tiny silver balls is her trademark. Rare to find a complete set and rarer in this motif. Clear blue cabachon moonstones are the central focus in both the earrings and brooch.
The brooch measures a bold 2 7/8 across x 2 1/4 inches down. The earrings measure 1 inch across x 3/4 down. The pin and earrings are completely original including the reverse mounts. Any slight imperfections are intentional as the designs by Gage are always wrought by hand and this is part of the beauty.
I have had several of Mary Gage's lily pads, some with rock crystal, turquoise and coral. There is a special beauty conveyed with the use of moonstones. It is a dramatic set with a beautiful patina.
