This brooch has colors that bring to mind the heather dotting the Scottish landscape. Shades of salmon,green and pale gray, blend one to the other. To me, it looks like a ribbon secured in the center. Each stone is carefully placed,with one on the opposite side, like a mirror image. The central stone appears black in the photo, but is a bloodstone that has the strength of color to unite the others.The reverse reveals all original mounts and pinstem. It measures a large 2 5/8 across x 2 1/8 down. The brooch is beautiful worn in either direction as shown in the photos. It is in excellent condition. One stone has a small natural inclusion(1 0'clock position photo # 2))which is not a chip or damage. This is a rare form,and most beautiful. Scottish,circa 1860.
