This Scottish brooch is circa 1880. It a very traditional motif called a garter. It has agates, all artistically selected to blend well together to create a fine composition. The engraving work is superior and threads itself around each stone and the perimeter of the brooch. The detail that is most distinctive is the use of the cairngorms. This is the only one I have owned having multiple cairngorms alternating with the agates. The colors of the stones are soft, and brings light to the agates. The brooch measures 2 1/8 inches across x 2 5/8 down. It is in excellent, original condition including the reverse mounts. It is distinctively beautiful, circa 1880. |
