Classical Georgian garnet paste reviere, circa 1800. The term reviere is used to describe a necklace with stones that are collet set, graduated and connected unobtrusively.(See Ginny Dawes book on Georgian Jewelry, pg. 74). This necklace is set with pastes, foiled with a ruby red color and hand set in crimped collets of rose gold. The result is clearly seen in the photos, a magnificent play of color. There is a detachable drop with a pansy motif, which enables the necklace to be worn both ways. The pansy rare to find in early jewelry, is the symbolic flower of remembrance. The necklace measures 15 3/4 inches long and is completely original. It has a concealed push clasp and is in remarkable condition. This necklace is truly beautiful and as elegant now, as it was in the 18th century. |
