Antique Scottish Agate Pin Circa 1860

Lovely, unusual Scottish agate brooch, circa 1860. The design is quite beautiful and looks like a pinwheel of woven colors. Intricate and tedious work, this is an artistic brooch and very much in keeping with the distinctive work of this art form. Each piece of agate is cut and placed on slate and then mounted in a custom silver frame. The frame is simply to secure the stones, not to enhance the beauty, or to detract the viewer. It is in fine condition with natural inclusions to the surface of two agates. These are not breaks as they are only surface, and again natural to the stone. The reverse reveals all original mounts and pinstem. It measures 2 inches across x 1 3/4 inches down. It is "simply" beautiful.
