This very dramatic, unusual gold ring is Victorian, circa 1860. This period of jewelry witnessed a great interest in revival of earlier design and famous jewelers such as Castellani created spectacular Etruscan Revival jewelry. This particular style can be described as Renaissance Revival by both its form and beautiful enamel work. The ring is 15k gold, and is set with three stone intaglios symbolizing, the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity. The cross is symbolic of the faith we must have, the heart a reminder of the acts of charity we must carry out and the anchor, the hope that keeps us strong. The ring is entirely original and has superior design and gold work. The classical shape of the ring and the subtle enamel work are distinctive. There is some loss of enamel and none has been restored. The loss is minimal and seen only under close scrutiny. The central stone is very slightly askew, but very secure. It is engraved on the inner shank Nikierl. It is a size 7 US. Uniquely beautiful and original, for man or woman. |
