Antique Gold Maltese Cross Circa 1830
Beautiful Georgian Maltese Cross circa 1820. This cross is designed with four translucent blue gray chalcedony joined with fine gold work rendered in the techniques of both cannetille and repousse. These techniques are time consuming and require the hand of a very skilled artisan. The central stone is a pale green chrysoprase that has been foiled beneath the stone to reflect the light and add a distinctive hue. The reverse has engraving , Louisa March 15 1829, and a lock of finely plaited hair beneath the crystal. The original glass is in excellent condition.

The symmetry is striking and the contrast of the stones with the fine gold work is distinctive. It measures 1 7/8 inches across x 2 3/8 long with the bail. It is beautiful, in excellent condition and rare. Lovely worn either on a long chain or close to the neck. Circa 1830, and English origin.
